When we saw photographs of Nicki Minaj writhing about on the sands of Hawaii, we were wondering what the hell she was up to? Then we found out that she’s actually shooting the music video for her track Starships. Since the song starts with, “Let’s go to the beach” this makes a lot more sense now. It doesn’t make it any less eye-popping though. You can’t really not gawk at Nicki with her green hair and bright pink bikini, especially because she’s putting on quite a show. As you’ll see in the pictures, the singer’s doing everything from being kittinish on her knees, to lying on and arching her back. It’s Sexy 101. Wonder how it will translate on film? Until we get to see it on celluloid … to the gallery, fab folk!

British video game retailer Gamestation unveiled this large-scale “Video Game Nativity Scene,” asking users to vote for video game characters to represent the participants in the traditional Christmas Nativity. The scene they’ve constructed is really elaborate, slightly offputting, but very impressively nerdy.
Click for Full Size:
That’s Sackboy as Baby Jesus, Princess Zelda as Mary and Marcus Fenix from Gears Of War as Joseph (yikes – sorry, Link), and Mario, Metalgear’s Solid Snake, and Obi-Wan Kenobi (ehh, not sure he’s truly a ‘video game character’ but we’ll let it slide). Yoshi represents the Donkey, and Sonic The Hedgehog is just kind of there as another barn animal.
Overall, pretty impressive, if a bit ominous looking. I voted for Bo Jackson from Tecmo Bowl as my Baby Jesus, but I guess he just missed the cut.

‘Mistletoe’ video premieres tomorrow at 7:54 p.m. ET/PT on MTV, with in-depth live stream to follow on MTV.com.

SANTIAGO, Chile — Justin Bieber faced plenty of challenges when he shot his “Mistletoe” video, the least of which was the fact that he did it in September, in Tennessee, with fake snow cascading down from the sky. The way he tells it, the biggest obstacle was not even being weirded out by Santa.
“It was different because, like, it’s a Christmas video, so you gotta get your Christmas spirit on,” Bieber told MTV News backstage in Santiago, Chile, where he played to 55,000 screaming fans on Saturday. “We had Santa there. He was kind of interesting because he had this finger that would light up, but I never knew that, so he would come up to me randomly and pointed at me and his finger lit up and it was really strange. I was like, ‘Santa doesn’t do that, my friend.’ ”
Of course, Bieber was quick to add that despite the awkward interaction, he remains decidedly pro-Santa, since “he gets kids in the holiday spirit.”
Bieber’s “Mistletoe” video will make its world premiere Tuesday at 7:54 p.m. on MTV — with a special live stream to follow on MTV.com, where we’ll roll out more of our interview with him! — and on Monday (October 17), he released the song to iTunes. He’s rather proud of how both turned out, because he got to collaborate with two of his favorites: director Roman White and the production team known as the Messengers.
“[Roman] can tell a story really well, so we wanted to use him,” Bieber explained. “He shot the ‘One Less Lonely Girl’ video, and I thought he did a great job; he shot the ‘You Belong [With] Me’ video with Taylor Swift, and he had a lot of great experience and a lot of great work.
“[And] Nasri [one member of the Messengers team], he’s really intelligent, he can tell a story as well, Christmas, anything,” he continued. “So we were thinking of doing a Christmas album last year, we never really got to it. And this year I was like, ‘This year I really want to do it,’ so we collaborated on some ideas and sure enough, we got some great Christmas music. … I think I have a few classics on the album, I really, really do. I think that there’s some songs on there that are so catchy and everyone’s going to want to sing them every Christmas.”

Every Kingdom is a record that young & has been brewing within himself for at least a couple of years. And yet its careful attention to detail, with tight, homespun harmonies and folk-informed arrangements, could only have been fully realised after relentless road-testing of these songs on stages across the UK and Europe. It has been an explosive introduction to a broader audience in 2011 for 24 year old Howard. Having only signed his record deal with Island Records at the beginning of the year, Ben had already accrued a hefty fanbase through sheer hard touring and the word of mouth support that followed. His initial success was predominantly buoyed by the incredibly supportive surf community that nurtured Ben in Devon and Cornwall after pulling out of a journalism course at Falmouth College in 2008 to focus on his music.. But that support has blossomed across Britain and beyond with the release of the Old Pine EP in the Spring of 2011, supported by national and regional radio stations across the UK. Alongside recent single, The Wolves, Ben’s songs were soon added to the playlists and his band booked for sessions. There has been something very natural in taking that early appeal to a wider audience, and that natural vibe resonates throughout his music too, all recorded within a crumbling, creaking barn in rural Devonshire, and nestled between the moors and the sea. Every Kingdom is an album that captures the rawness and intimacy of Ben’s live performance. The deftness of touch, the spellbinding nature of those six strings carefully finger-plucked, rapped knuckles on the body of the guitar, and Ben’s otherworldly vocal cries are spun and woven sublimely. Produced by the band’s bassist and drummer Chris Bond, it is an album packed with highlights and atmosphere. The trio (cellist and vocalist India Bourne completes the line-up) have been a tight unit for long enough to know exactly what’s required of each other to make the songs resonate so beautifully. Opening on Old Pine, and buoyed by the expressive, lulling Diamonds, it’s on this second single, Keep Your Head Up that showcases Ben at his most raw and unrestrained, hook-laden and heavy of heart. Concluding on the finger-plucked, harmony-heavy, Promise, it’s a mesmerising, spiralling finale by a genuine and uncompromising talent. Dark and alluring on tape, and creating this unique live story before the story’s truly yet begun, Ben Howard’s debut album is a captivating introduction to a unique and clever young British songwriter.

‘MTV First: Lady Gaga’ airs at 7:49 p.m. ET on MTV and Logo, and continues live on MTV.com.
By Jocelyn Vena
Lady Gaga has some news for all her Little Monsters. The Mother Monster herself will sit down with MTV News and Sway Calloway on Thursday night (August 18) during “MTV First: Lady Gaga” to premiere her highly anticipated music video for “Yoü and I.” And during her live interview, she’s also set to make another big announcement.
After the video premieres at 7:49 p.m. ET on MTV and Logo, it will appear on mtvU, MTV Hits and Tr3s at 8 p.m. on Thursday. And immediately following the on-air portion, Gaga’s interview and fan Q&A will stream live on MTV.com.
Want to get in on the fun? Submit questions beginning Monday (August 15) via Twitter using the hashtag #MTVGaga.
“Yoü and I” is the fourth video off of Gaga’s chart-topping Born This Way. She’s already dazzled fans with high-concept clips for “Born This Way” and “Judas” and then kicked it more lo-fi and old school in her video for “The Edge of Glory,” which co-starred the late Clarence Clemons.
Gaga promised fans that she’ll post a link to the video as her 1,000th tweet. So far she’s posted several hints about the video as she approaches that number. Tweet #993 reads, “Love is a Result. We bare an Unbearable Human Inability: to just ‘be.’ ” It also features a photo of a woman, presumably Gaga, in a white dress, sitting at a piano in the woods. Her next two tweets hinted that the premiere would take place in “Less than a week” and then the accompanying photo was of dirty feet in high-heeled platforms.
Last week Gaga tweeted out single artwork for “Yoü and I,” which featured her male alter-ego, Jo Calderone. Gaga previously teased that the video would include another one of her alter egos, that of her mermaid incarnation, Yuyi.
Gaga shot the video in Nebraska last month and explained that it is about taking a journey to win back the one you love. “The [video is about the] idea that when you’re away from someone you love, it’s torture,” she said. “I knew I wanted the video to be about me sprinting back and walking hundreds of thousands of miles to get him back.”
Don’t miss the premiere of the “Yoü and I” video during “MTV First: Lady Gaga,” Thursday night at 7:49 p.m. ET on MTV and Logo, followed by a live Q&A with Gaga and her fans on MTV.com. Tweet your questions for the Mother Monster with the hashtag #MTVGaga.

It’s been more than five years since the Red Hot Chili Peppers released Stadium Arcadium, but later this month, they’ll finally return with I’m With You, their hotly anticipated new album. And obviously, this is a fairly big deal.
Which is why it’s only fitting that MTV is rolling out the red carpet for RHCP, with the exclusive premiere of their video for “The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie,” the first single off You. The clip will debut live on MTV and MTV2 on Wednesday, August 17, at 7:53 p.m. ET/PT.
Immediately following the debut of “Maggie,” the band will sit down with MTV News for an in-depth interview, to stream live on MTV.com. And since we know you’ve been waiting a long time for this, we’re also allowing you to get in on the conversation. Fans can submit their questions (and video questions) for Anthony, Flea, Josh and Chad via Twitter, using the hashtag #AskRHCP.
“The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie” recently rocketed to the top of Billboard’s Alternative Radio chart, giving the band their 12th #1 on Modern Rock radio (which, just in case you’re keeping score at home, is a record no one can even come close to matching). I’m With You, their 10th studio album (and first with new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer), is due in stores on August 30.
Tune in for the premiere of “The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie” on Wednesday, August 17, at 7:53 p.m. ET/PT on MTV and MTV2. Then stick around immediately after for our exclusive interview with the band, streaming live on MTV.com. Fans can submit their questions for RHCP via Twitter, using the hashtag #AskRHCP.
