Justin Bieber Celebrates Holiday Love In “Mistletoe”

You have to sympathize with the girl in the video for “Mistletoe.” You’re getting some one-on-one time over hot chocolate at the café with your main squeeze Justin Bieber, when all of a sudden, some blonde girl comes out of nowhere and puts her hands on him. Don’t you hate when that happens? (“What was that about?” she mouths.)

Her insecurity seems understandable: after all, girls love Justin Bieber. The song, then, is his way of letting his “shorty” know that she’s the only one he wants to see under the mistletoe (or, for that matter, in a drop-top Porsche). How committed is our crooning lover? Enough to park in the middle of the street and sing until she puts down the book she’s reading (which just so happens to be New Moon) and finds the gift he’s snuck into her bedroom. That’s devotion, especially from a guy still young enough to get away with a line like “I should be playing in the winter snow.” Ah, young love!

L-Vis 1990 first single Lost In Love and debut album Neon Dreams

“Lost In Love” is the first single to be taken from L-Vis 1990′s forthcoming debut album, Neon Dreams. Continuing a collaborative partnership which began on last year’s “Forever You” single, breakthrough Bristol-based vocalist Javeon McCarthy once again takes centre stage here. Through its melodious analogue synths, infectious vocal hooks and sub-4 minute running length, “Lost In Love” in many ways serves as the ideal entrée to Neon Dreams. This is the sound of L-Vis 1990 revisiting the routes of his dance music love affair. Picking up his own theme from the original—the classic French bassline—L-Vis 1990′s Neon Dreams Club Mix pushes the low-end triumphantly to the fore. ‘Club’ is certainly the operative word here; feel the remix’s Bangalter-esque bassline drop and your mind’s eye fixes instinctively upon an undulating dancefloor. The Night Slugs Allstars—L-Vis 1990, Bok Bok, Jam City—also take the ‘floor on their version, albeit via the neon-tinged scenic route. Much like the label itself, their remix is replete with colour, difficult to define and relentlessly innovative. Dub versions of both remixes come bundled with the package.

LIL WAYNE “HOW TO LOVE ” FROM THE FORTHCOMING ALBUM THA CARTER IV

Grammy-winning, multiplatinum hip-hop superstar Lil Wayne has his brand new single “How To Love” released this week via Cash Money/Young Money. The single is taken from the Weezy’s forthcoming hugely anticipated album, THA CARTER IV. THA CARTER IV follows Wayne’s ninth album, 2010’s I Am Not A Human Being which soared to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, but is really the official follow-up to his game-changing 2008 set “Tha Carter III”.The last decade has seen Lil Wayne establish himself as arguably the most influential artist hip hop has seen in years, with more than 10 million records sold, a staggering eight Grammy nominations for the seminal Tha Carter III, and shattering records by selling over one million copies in its first week of release. The New Orleans native who hails from the rough streets of Hollygrove is a veteran artist who released his first tracks at age of 12 after he was introduced to Cash Money CEOs Ronald “Slim” Williams and Bryan “Birdman” Williams. He released the first installment of Tha Carter series in 2004, followed by Tha Carter II in 2006, which further solidified Lil Wayne’s status as one of the best MCs in the hip hop game. But it was with the release in 2008 of Tha Carter III that Lil Wayne became a genuine worldwide superstar, paving the way for his advisory role to grow as CEO of Young Money Records. Since then Young Money has given us debut albums from two of the hottest new artists to emerge from the US in recent years, Drake and Nicki Minaj.

Hurts to release double A side single Illuminated/ Better Than Love

Evoking memories of the New Romantics and the electronic music movement of the eighties, Hurts have announced the release of A double A single featuring the tracks Illuminated along with the re-issued Better Than Love.

The bands debut Happiness entered the UK album charts at number 4 with over 25,000 sales making Hurts the UK’s fastest selling new band of 2010. They have now sold over 500,000 albums worldwide and in the UK, the album has been officially certified Gold.

Throughout Europe, Hurts also earned 14 top 10 iTunes positions including number one’s in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Finland and Luxembourg, and the album is now gold in the UK, Germany Russia, and Switzerland and Platinum in Poland.

Better Than Love was released as the bands first major single in May last year and has fast become a live favourite. Stated by Hurts as “dance music for depression”, Better Than Love is an upbeat yet dark single which will be released as a Double A Side alongside Illuminated. In stark contrast to Better Than Love, Illuminated is a slow and soft song that leads into a dramatic, emotive chorus.

Hurts – Better Than Love

Their single Wonderful Life has already had over 14 million online plays and in Europe has had great success with a number 1 airplay record in 5 countries to date including Germany, where the single has now sold over 400,000 copies and is certified Gold. Their success has also been matched in Poland where ‘Wonderful Life’ is also a Gold selling single.

Hurts ended 2010 with a bang after winning awards both in the UK and internationally. In Germany, they scooped the prestigious award for ‘Best International Newcomer’ at the Bambi’s (the German BAFTAs) and in the UK, The Sun awarded them the award for ‘Best Bizarre Session of 2010’. They also recently won the award for ‘Best New Band’ at the NME Awards and are nominated for Best International Newcomer at the Echo Awards in Germany next week.

Hurts are currently on a sell-out European tour following their sold out shows in the UK in February. They will be performing their first ever US show at Coachella next month followed by tour dates across Asia, before heading home for a busy summer of festival performances including V Festival, Isle of Wight, T in the Park, Oxegen and Dot To Dot.

The double A side single Illuminated/ Better Than Love is released by Hurts on May 2nd

Back to the Blues: G. Love new album, Fixin’ To Die set for release

G. Love has announced the details of his new album, Fixin’ To Die, set for release on on Brushfire Records. Recorded at Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville, NC, and produced by The Avett Brothers, this new body of work is arguably G. Love’s most sincere and candid work to date. After a chance meeting in Boston last fall, G. Love and The Avett Brothers forged a friendship and bonded over their love of back road blues. After performing together onstage and discovering their shared musical heritage, G. Love invited Scott and Seth Avett to not only produce his new album, but perform on it as well. The result is Fixin’ To Die, a collection of  G. Love originals, rearranged traditionals, and a classic cover, many simmering for over a decade, all sharing a common goal: to strip away all pretense and capture the original spirit and sound G. Love has cultivated over his entire career but never fully embraced until now. From the ragged jangle of its opener “Milk & Sugar” and floorboard stomp of Bukka White’s “Fixin’ To Die,” over the loping lilt of “Home” and longing for “Katie Miss,” through the greasy fried “Get Goin’” and moonshine reverb of “Heaven,” to the hip shake hootenanny in Paul Simon’s infamous kiss off “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover,” G. Love and The Avetts deliver a life lesson in how to find a song’s sweet spot. “It was an emotional recording session and I was truly blown away by the level of focus, care and passion Scott & Seth brought to it. It was a tremendously positive and encouraging experience. This is the most inspired I’ve ever felt making a record,” G. Love said. As Scott Avett says, “There’s a little bit of this record on all the previous G. Love records, you just had to look for it. This is the record we all knew he should make and he could make, but again, he had to open himself to the core to make it. That’s the difference.”
