‘MARLEY’ TO BE RELEASED BY ISLAND RECORDS ON APRIL 16th 2012
The Third World’s first superstar and arguably the most recognizable human being on the planet, reggae giant BOB MARLEY is celebrated this year in a film by award-winning director Kevin MacDonald (‘One Day In September’, ‘State Of Play’, ‘The Last King Of Scotland’, ‘Touching The Void’ and ‘Life In A Day’). ‘MARLEY’, which received a rapturous reception at its premiere at the Berlin Film Festival on Feb 12th, will be released in the UK on 20th April ’12 through Universal Pictures and features stunning live performances, intimate interviews with friends and family, and rare documentary footage, which tells the definitive story of the superstar who rose from the ghetto to become one of the greats of popular music before dying tragically young at the height of his fame. BOB MARLEY was born February 6, 1945 in rural St. Ann’s Parish, Jamaica, leaving home at 14 to pursue a music career in Kingston. A naturally gifted musician and singer he recorded his first track in 1962. In ’72 finding himself stranded in London with his band the Wailers he signed to Chris Blackwell’s Island Records and went on to enjoy global success and to put reggae on the music map. Many of his songs – which highlighted both Jamaica’s poverty and the spirituality of its people – have since become universal anthems. MARLEY died of cancer on May 11, 1981, aged 36.Says Kevin MacDonald: ” MARLEY the film is an intimate, human portrait of the legendary singer . But as with any film about an artist – the main purpose has got to be to send the listener back to the music with a renewed appreciation for its beauty and significance. That’s why I am so happy that Island are releasing this special collection of songs from and inspired by the movie.” Says Chris Blackwell: “Kevin MacDonald has made a wonderful film about Marley. I think it will touch the hearts of many. It tells Bob’s story properly for the first time and you get a real sense of the man and his incredible talent. His spiritual message is as relevant now as it ever was and his music still resonates around the world.” The soundtrack to ‘MARLEY’ will be released on Island Records on 16th April ’12. It will be released in two formats: 2CD and a 3LP. It includes, for the first time on record, the 1978 One Love Peace concert performance of ‘Jammin’ during which Marley joined the hands of bitter political rivals Michael Manley and Edward Seaga, a gesture which went some way towards restoring peace to a strife-torn Jamaica. The tracklisting of the soundtrack, which follows the chronology of the film, is as follows:
- 1) Corner Stone
- 2) Judge Not
- 3) Simmer Down
- 4) Put It On
- 5) Small Axe
- 6) Mellow Mood
- 7) Stir It Up

- 10) Natty Dread
- 11) Trenchtown Rock (live at The Roxy Theatre)
- 12) Get Up Stand Up

- 16) No Woman No Cry (Live at the Lyceum)
- 17) War (Live at the Rainbow)
- 18) I Shot the Sheriff (Live at the Lyceum)

The Stone Roses, Kasabian & Snow Patrol Headline T In The Park 2012.
Firm favourites with festival crowds across the globe, Snow Patrol bring their epic anthems back to Balado to headline the mighty Main Stage at this year’s T In The Park. Festival frontman Gary Lightbody hailed T in the Park as “the best weekend ever” when the band gave one of the most memorable T in the Park headline performances to date, in 2009. Having just completed their sold out ‘Fallen Empires’ tour of the UK and Ireland, the band are off to tour Europe and the U.S.A before heading home, fired up and ready to go at Balado.

2012 Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow
Stuffing one of the world’s largest comedy festivals into the one show is no easy feat, but the Melbourne International Comedy Festival has done just that with Roadshow 2012.
Offering a selection of Australian, international and special guest comedians, the Roadshow is literally all the best bits of the Comedy Festival condensed into the one ‘all killer, no filler’ travelling event.
Last year, comedians taking part in Roadshow performed to enthusiastic crowds in 60 regional centres and capital cities across Australia – not to forget a highly successful stint in Singapore and a sold-out debut season in Hong Kong.
Given such popularity, this year’s Roadshow plans to connect with even more comedy fans and share the kind of humour that’s had Melbourne weeping with laughter. More than 300 shows contained in one – you can’t get better value than that.

2012 Grammy Nominations: Kanye West Tops The List
Adele, Foo Fighters and Bruno Mars tie for six nods each, just falling short of West’s seven nominations.

For the second year in a row, a hip-hop artist is leading the pack in Grammy nominations.
Although his name was only called for one category during Wednesday’s (November 30) “Grammy Nominations Concert Live!!,” Kanye West walked away with a leading seven nods, following the hip-hop trend set by last year’s leading nominee, Eminem. He’s nominated for his Watch the Throne joint album with Jay-Z and also picked up a few nominations — including Song of the Year — for his powerhouse collaborative track “All of the Lights,” which features Rihanna, Fergie and Kid Cudi. He’s even nominated against himself, with Watch the Throne and his own My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy nabbing Rap Album of the Year nods.
West was followed by this year’s critical darling, Adele, who is tied with the Foo Fighters and Bruno Mars for six nods each. Lil Wayne and dance-music breakout Skrillex each garnered five nods.
While the Grammys have a reputation for catering to an older demographic (Robert Plant and Alison Krauss for 2009 Album of the Year, anyone?), this year’s nominees are notably young, with 34-year-old West looking downright geriatric next to fellow nominees Adele (23), Rihanna (23), Lady Gaga (25) and Bruno Mars (26).
